Peppy Payroll: pay your team from a balance you load

Payroll gives salaries a naira balance of their own. How to load it, add staff whose names their banks confirm, bring in your HR or accountant, and pay everyone with one review and your PIN.

Paying a team by hand means a run of transfers, a list of account numbers and the worry that one went to the wrong name. Peppy Payroll keeps salaries in one place: a naira balance of their own, a staff list whose names the banks have confirmed, and one review screen on payday.

Set it up

Open Payroll in the app and choose Set up payroll. You need a verified email address.

Payroll gets its own naira balance, apart from your own. Money leaves it only when staff are paid, or when you move it back to your own balance.

Load the balance

Choose Add money and move naira from your own balance into payroll when you're ready to pay. Only you can add money or take it back.

Add your staff

Choose Add staff. Enter each person's 10-digit account number, and Peppy suggests the bank it belongs to; if it can't tell, you choose the bank. Then add their monthly salary and, if you like, their role.

Their bank confirms the account name before they're added. A mistyped number shows up as the wrong name before any money moves.

Payday

Choose Pay staff. Everyone is ticked at their monthly salary. Untick anyone you're not paying this time, or change someone's amount for this payment only. Their monthly salary stays as it is. Add a note if you like; otherwise the payment is named for the month, such as "November salaries".

Review payment then shows:

  • each person and the amount they'll get;
  • the transfer fees;
  • the total;
  • what's left in the payroll balance afterwards.

Approve with your PIN, and each person is paid by bank transfer into their own account. If a transfer doesn't go through, its money comes back to the payroll balance, and you can pay that person again from Pay staff.

Bring in your HR or accountant

Choose Add person and enter their email address. Then:

  • They sign in to their own Peppy account with that email, and Payroll appears in their app.
  • They can add staff and pay staff from this payroll, nothing else. They can't add money or take it out.
  • You're told about every staff change and every payment.
  • You can add up to 5 people and remove anyone at any time. Payments they already made aren't affected.

Good to know

  • Staff don't need Peppy. They're paid into their own Nigerian bank accounts.
  • Fees are on screen first. Each salary is a naira bank transfer. The review screen shows the transfer fees before you approve, and the fees page has the current figure.
  • Up to 300 staff. One payroll holds up to 300 people.
